Biography


Antonio J Nuovo, Founder/Executive Pastry Chef


Tony’s passion for food began early in life.  His mother,  Francesca, loved to cook and bake for her family and close friends.  Spending a good deal of time standing over her shoulder in the kitchen, sparked his interest in food preparation….especially baking! 

    Tony’s first professional exposure to the culinary arts appeared in the form of a business proposition from his brother-in-law, Paul.  Paul’s parents, who had been in the baking business for 30 years were retiring and seeking interested family members to assume ownership.  A partnership was born!   Tony studied the rigors of his new craft and polished his skills as an independent businessman during the ensuing six years.  

     Several years later, following the sale of his business, there was a second apprenticeship under a European pastry chef.  This association served as a catalyst in Tony’s decision to someday specialize in cakes.  The taste and appearance of these noticeably elegant products were unlike anything he had seen before.

     In 1989, the decision to take another journey into the baking business was made.  All the years of experience, training and creative energy were about to take shape.  That new enterprise would be known as "Layers Sensational Cakes".
